A Letter from the Professor

Dear Reader,

Many of you will undoubtedly believe the following tales to be nothing more than make-believe and hokum. However, I assure you that these are all true tales I have encountered while pursuing the truth of what happened to the heirs of the Ravigneaux royal lineage. As you know, the Ravigneaux family were some of the unluckiest, and greediest, rulers this country had ever known. Many times the men would simply vanish without a trace, and the women would usually be driven to the highest realms of insanity. The line seems to have ended with a last son, as all records of his life stop once it was reported he was to be married. Local legend says that he was cursed by his witch bride when she caught him having an affair on their wedding night, and no trace of him was ever found since. That is, until now!

I am excited to report that, after years of archaeological research, I have uncovered these snippets of information which shed some light into a society that was only rumored to exist for years. Yes, proof of not only the prince’s curse, but of the existence of creatures we have only heard of in myths. These, my friend, are the diaries, papers, memoirs, tales, and other writings left behind by the faerie folk who are purported to inhabit the Hinterland Forest that begins near the old palace grounds. This forest reaches far beyond what we’ve been able to explore, and upon reading these documents there is no doubt in my mind that we are perhaps barred from ever exploring its greatest reaches by their magical influences.

Please enjoy the secrets these creatures have revealed to us in their works. Thank you!

Sincerely,
Professor Lavinia Aurelis
